I don't know how they determine what will come from where. But you now have to watch for some imported from china stuff from them. as a long time user of milwaukee tools, I'm not disappointed with this one. It is powerful and heavy duty in the true sense.
I had a job remodeling apartment units where every vanity top had to be cut down a couple of inches. I've been using this grinder for several years now and consider it one of my "go to tools". The 12 amp motor gives it enough power to cut 4" cast iron and everything else I've put in front of it. Being able to slow the wheel down helped me control the tool better to get a clean, straight cut. I've cut metal, ground out mortar joints, cut tile and marble with it. The variable speed is great for precision cutting.
I love the variable speed feature on this grinder. With as many grinding, sanding, and cut-off wheel attachments there are on the market, this little machine has endless uses. I've owned several Milwaukee electric tools over the years including a sawzall, circular saw, 1/2" drill, and 1/2" hammer drill. It comes in very handy especially if you want to maintain precise control of the grinder for various operations. I also like that it has a detachable cord. All of which are built to last. This 4-1/2" grinder is no exception.
The variable speeds this model affords makes short and pleasurable work on wood carvings / and shaping. A good reliable grinder at a fair price.
The easily adjustable wheel guard was especially helpful. The variable speeds makes this a well rounded performer.
Have used this grinder for specific purpose of using it as a wood chipping / log carver. I can safely assume that when using a metal grinding wheel the tool would perform equally as well.
Heavy duty performance. A specific 4 1/2" chipping blade was used in my efforts.
The grinder was easy to manipulate, and did not suffer from over heating during the shaping processes.
Spent > 1 hr on phone with Milwaukee tech support who confirmed abnormality.Got new unit in one day from Amazon but replacement unit still makes same sound but not as frequent. Hopefully Milwaukee won't let me down with a third unit.4/2/07 Update: Got 2nd unit back from Milwaukee in damaged box and simple check slip that it was alright - no new plastic case or written letter back stating what and how unit had been checked out. Researched all grinders in market and specifically chose the Milwaukee for reputation and variable speed feature. Went beyond 30 days so have to send unit to Milwaukee for examination and possibly new unit - total hassle.Unit is very powerful and variable speed is great. Very disappointing so am stuck with raspy, knocking grinder from what I thought was the last "real" genuine tool company - very disappointing. Can also double as a sander. Received unit that had a very audible raspy-knocking sound especially at low speeds.
